Mission San Jose 1797-1836 Mission San Jose was founded by Father Fermin Lasuen June 11, 1797. It was the 14th California Mission and was located near the foot of Mission Peak. The Franciscan Fathers began converting the Ohlones to Catholicism and changing them into farmers, herders, laborers, and craftsmen. ![]() Mission San Jose survives today as a reminder of our Spanish heritage.
